HOMES Inc. was honored to have Governor Andy Beshear, along with our housing partners, funders, community leaders and supporters, as we gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking and the progress of rebuilding Eastern Kentucky following the devastating July 2022 flood.
The event recognized partnerships and collaborations that have made it possible for families to begin rebuilding their lives. Governor Beshear spoke about the dedication of these organizations since the flood, acknowledged the long-term recovery efforts, and everyone working to restore safe, affordable housing throughout the region.
Ground breaking image.
These homes represent far more than new construction—they represent hope, resilience, and new beginnings for families who lost so much during one of Eastern Kentucky's most devastating natural disasters. Every home completed is a testament to what can be accomplished when communities, partners, and supporters come together with a shared purpose.

As we approach the fourth anniversary of the July 2022 flood, we pause to remember all that was lost while also celebrating the remarkable progress that has been made. HOMES Inc. remains committed to serving Eastern Kentucky by providing quality, affordable housing and helping families build a stronger future.
Reflecting on the significance of the 2022 flood, HOMES Inc. Executive Director Seth Long shared:
"When I stepped out of the house this morning to go to work, I was thinking about tomorrow morning, the anniversary of the flood and what it was like four years ago. If you were here, it needs no explanation of what an anniversary of an event like this has done to our community. It has changed our lives. It split time in two, and it's good for us to reflect, and think back, and remember...”
